Conservatory Spring Flower Shows
Chicago is a bloomin’ kind of town with free admission to Spring flower shows at two locations: the Lincoln Park Conservatory and the Garfield Park Conservatory. The dazzling displays of flowering annuals and perennials give visitors a welcome taste of the beauty and color of Spring right around the corner!
Built in the late 1800s, the Lincoln Park Conservatory is located within a treasured Victorian glass house on the city' north side. With such permanent collections as the Fern Room with a range of ancient species; the Orchid Room an impressive array of the rare flora; and the Palm House featuring tropical plants, the Lincoln Park Conservatory has long been one of the city’s most popular, free attractions for plant and flower enthusiasts.
Its impressive counterpart, the 102 year-old Garfield Park Conservatory, stands as one of the largest conservatories in the nation, occupying 4.5 acres on Chicago's southwest side. Often referred to as 'landscape art under glass', the conservatory’s permanent collections include a Fern Room and Palm House, as well as an interactive exhibit, Sugar from the Sun, that shows the many ways plants derive life-sustaining energy from sunlight.
Part of Chicago Winter Dance 2010, a free celebration of ice skating and dance sponsored by the Chicago Office of Tourism. Find more events here.
