The 14th annual Chicago SummerDance series presents free Western Swing dance lessons by The Galaxie and live music by The Western Elstons, performing Texas Swing and Western Swing music.
The Western Elstons mix classic honky tonk, western swing, and rockabilly. This leading American roots music group features Scott Ligon, (guitar and lead vocals), Casey McDonough, (guitar, keyboard and vocals), Joel Paterson, (pedal steel guitar), Jimmy Sutton, (upright bass and vocals), and Alex Hall, (drums).
The Galaxie’s movement classes are rooted in a history of dance education in Chicago. Swing, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston and other vintage dance forms were re-introduced by the Galaxie core instructors in 1994 as they lead the neo-swing revival in Chicago and around the Mid-west. Since that time, the Galaxie has been collecting the best and brightest dance forms that support the idea of community rhythm making, body awareness, and pure dancing joy in dance styles such as Tap, African, Jump Rhythm, Jazz, and of course, social forms.
