The 14th annual Chicago SummerDance series presents free Swing dance lessons by Tommye Giacchino and Gregory Day and live music by Lesley Byers and The Jazz Cats, performing Swingin’ Jazz music.
Lesley Byers & The Jazz Cats recreate music made famous by Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Duke Ellington, and Ella Fitzgerald. Singing professionally for nearly 20 years, Lesley Picchietti Byers has performed all over the country including; Irving Plaza in New York City, The Derby in L.A. and The Chicago House of Blues. From St. Louis to Seattle, San Francisco to Boston, she spent 1997-2000 performing an average of 180 shows per year. In the fall of 2000, Lesley Byers and the Jazz Cats was formed with Byers and some of Chicago’s most talented jazz musicians.
Gregory Day and Tommye Giacchino started their partnership in 1996 and were soon two time United States Champions. They have been featured on PBS' "Champinship Ballroom Dancing" for several years as well as being part of shows for major networks in the US and abroad. They are currently on the staff at the schools of Gus Giordano and of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, as well as having been part of the Boston Ballet Summer Dance Program.

This event is part of the 14th annual Chicago SummerDance festival, an eleven-week festival featuring 44 nights of one-hour dance lessons by professional instructors followed by two hours of live music and dancing on a open-air dance floor. SummerDance runs June 17 to August 29, every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening, from 6 to 9:30 pm, and each Sunday afternoon, from 4 to 7 pm, weather permitting.
