National Museum of Mexican Art

Founded in 1982 by a group of educators and community activists, the National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA) is now the largest Latino cultural organization in the U.S., as well as the only Latino museum accredited by the American Association of Museums.

The NMMA presents visual arts exhibitions (e.g. African Presence in Mexico), performing arts events, and educational programs which conveys the depth and beauty of Mexican culture 'sin fronteras' (without borders).

The Museum has created more than 100 visual arts exhibitions, has a 6,000 piece Permanent Collection, and annually presents the Sor Juana Festival of performing arts in Chicago and Texas.

The NMMA has also created the Yollocalli Arts Reach, which conducts after-school art classes for inner city youth, and the youth-run Radio Arte WRTE-FM, which recently won the President’s “Coming Up Taller” Award for innovative youth programming.
