The historic DANK-HAUS German Cultural Center hosts rotating art exhibits, annual events such as Oktoberfest, monthly jazz concerts on the terrace, German cinema (series include German Cinema Now and Kaffee, Kuchen und Kino), and other celebrations of German-American history and culture. The six story building, located in Lincoln Square, Chicago's traditionally German neighborhood, has a rich history and fascinating architectural details.
DANK Chicago was founded in 1959 as a chapter of the nation-wide organization German American National Congress. With a chapter membership of around 800, DANK Chicago represents Americans of German descent, their friends and families, and the public in general.
The Historic DANK-HAUS, located on Western Avenue, is also home to DANK School Chicago, our German language school for both children and adults.
Yearly events, such as our Spring Festival with GAPA (German American Police Association), Oktoberfest with Niedersachsen, and Sylvester Ball on New Year's Eve add to the rich, cultural heritage celebrated here at DANK Chicago. DANK Chicago also participates in May Fest Chicago, the Steuben Day Parade on Western Avenue, and other activities in Lincoln Square.
