Life By the Lake: Flickr Photo Journals

We've asked five Chicago-based photographers (all regular contributors to our Explore Chicago Flickr Group)  to share their photos as they explore Chicago's neighborhoods this summer. Visit this page frequently to see newly added photos. Do you have great Chicago photos? Share your pics in our Explore Chicago Flickr Group.

Laurie Chipps

Local poet, Thax Douglas, watches the Aluminum Group. I want the hear the poem he's writing in his head right now.

Laurie is exploring Chicago's neighborhoods by bike. A librarian for the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries at Art Institute of Chicago, Laurie often annotates her photos with historical information.

Eric Allix Rogers

Eric has visited--and photographed--72 of Chicago's 77 official community areas. He coordinates a nonprofit fellowship program at the University of Chicago, among other things, and likes to explore the city by bike and on foot.

Matt Vanderzalm

The Original Rainbow Cone has been a Chicago institution for more than 80 years.

Matt recently moved to Chicago from Berkeley, California. When he needs to take a break from design work, he grabs a camera and heads out for a walk in his new neighborhood.

Tammy Green

A juicy burger topped with cheese, peppers and other toppings at Kuma's Corner.

Tammy is a Web geek, podcaster, photographer, urban gardener, bicyclist, and semi-pro restaurant critic. She likes to explore restaurants in the neighborhoods.

David Schalliol

A group of young men play basketball in the alley in their South Side neighborhood of Woodlawn.

David explores all of Chicago, but focuses on Chicago's South and West Sides. He brings the perspective of an artist and a sociologist to his photography.
