Public Relations

 

The Mayor's Office of Special Events public relations staff produces and distributes pertinent information to all media outlets including print, radio, television and the Internet which in turn, generates news items, programming and images.

Events encompassed are all public music festivals, sporting events, tournaments and holiday celebrations.

The public relations staff is responsible for gathering event information and writing press materials, fact sheets, media alerts, public service announcements, photo captions, speeches and speaking points. In addition, choreographing press preview events, photo opportunities, the pitching of story ideas to local, national and international press. They also field incoming press inquiries.

Marketing responsibilities include writing and editing copy for collateral materials which include brochures, flyers, program books, display ads, bus and train advertisements.

The Mayor's Office of Special Events works in tandem with other city, state, national and international entities including but not limited to, Department of Cultural Affairs, Navy Pier, McCormick Place, Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Public Libraries, and the various tourism offices around the country.
