The Office of Protocol functions as the liaison for the Mayor's Office within the Mayor's Office of Special Events. The Office's work is vital in maintaining good relations between local, state and county officials, community organizations and city offices by creating and overseeing proper and concise correspondence with other governmental bodies; by coordinating visits of U.S. dignitaries to the Mayor's Office; and by greeting dignitaries with the extreme protocol required of their standing. These duties are accomplished by ensuring all dignitaries are properly identified and addressed, that their standing and representation is appropriately recognized, and that their greetings, receptions and arrivals are expertly organized.
Protocol is responsible for managing and coordinating events for the Mayor's Office including local community affairs, cultural celebratory receptions, city council meetings, military ceremonies and local corporate events. Additional tasks include:
- Collaboration with various community organizations throughout the city
- Establish proper use of etiquette, order of precedence for event programs
- Manage and coordinate programs
- Create and write program contents
- Manage and coordinate special City Council recognitions
- Proclamations
- Flag Protocol (State Department)
