Chicago Riverwalk

 

 

The Chicago Riverwalk is a great place to enjoy Chicago, its history and its magnificent architecture. The Riverwalk features public walkways and seating areas along the water's edge, where visitors can enjoy incredible views of the Loop's canyon of skyscrapers, while watching the boats go by.

The Riverwalk also features attractions such as cafes, boat cruises, water taxis, bike rentals and tours, and crafts made by local artisans. The Chicago Riverwalk runs along the south bank of the Chicago River, from Lake Shore Drive to Franklin Street.

Daily, 6 am - 11 pm; most attractions are open mid-May through mid-October

 


Admission:

The Riverwalk is a public promenade and is FREE. Admission to individual attractions on the Riverwalk varies.

 


Accessibility:

  • Accessible wheelchair entrance(s)
  • Accessible seating area available (if auditorium/stadium venue)

 

The Riverwalk is partially accessible to persons with disabilities; some sections are accessible only by stairs. Planned future construction will include full accessibility along the entire Riverwalk.

Details: The Riverwalk is accessible to people with mobility disabilities between Lake Shore Drive and State Street. A ramp from Upper Wacker Drive is located in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza at State Street. There is an accessible connection to the lakefront trail at Lake Shore Drive, and an accessible drop off area for vehicles at Lower Stetson, just east of Michigan Avenue. Between Michigan Ave. and Wabash Ave., parking for persons with disabilities is available at O'Briens, call in advance to 312.346.3131. The Riverwalk is not yet accessible west of State Street, although most cafes provide priority seating for people with disabilities on the Upper Wacker sidewalk overlooking the river.
