As part of Maxim's Play On Cabaret series, local cabaret favorite Laura Freeman and Beckie Menzie presented a celebration of Doris Day and her music. Doris Day began singing with some of the big bands of the 1940s and scored her first hit recording, "Sentimental Journey," in early 1945. It soon became the anthem of World War II troops and their desire to return home. Laura Freeman performs regularly at cabaret venues such as The Skokie Theatre, Maxim's, Davenport's Piano Bar, Drury Lane Water Tower and the Chicago Cultural Center.
