The Chicago Cultural Center – a beautiful landmark building and the nation’s first free municipal cultural center – offers opportunities for people who want to share their talents to assist at some of the many free cultural programs and events sponsored by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, both inside the Cultural Center and occasionally at events at Millennium Park, Grant Park Music Festival, Chicago SummerDance and City festivals such as Taste of Chicago and the Jazz Festival. While assisting at concerts, theater events, lectures, art exhibitions, family events and discussions, volunteers meet new people and interact with visitors from around the world.
Volunteers contribute in many ways, such as:
Conducting building tours
Manning the information booths in the lobbies of the Cultural Center
Ushering/manning information tables at festivals, concerts and other events
Helping at the Marriage Court wedding ceremonies at the Chicago Cultural Center
Assisting staff with light office duties
In addition to the chance to be involved in some of the city’s most exciting and interesting cultural events, volunteers receive 15% off merchandise at the Shop at the Cultural Center and invitations to exhibition openings. Volunteers who contribute 40 or more service hours receive a free one-year membership to the Chicago Cultural Center. Special volunteer events include an annual holiday party in December and a luncheon each Spring for active volunteers.
