Ukrainian & East Village
This unique neighborhood runs from Ashland Avenue to Sacramento Boulevard, between Division Street and Chicago Avenues. An estimated 10,000 Ukrainian-Americans still live in century-old Ukrainian Village, but there has been an influx of people from every nationality in recent years as it undergoes redevelopment. The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Ukrainian National Museum, and the Louis Sullivan-designed Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cathedral keep the heritage alive.
Ukrainian Village and East Village are part of the larger West Town community area. The two villages are known for their lovely, tree-lined streets, old-world shops and affordable restaurants, as well as trendy bars and attractions, including the popular Empty Bottle music club and Redmoon Theater.
