The Garfield Park community is becoming Chicago’s “Green Town,” with the creation of an “eco-industrial park” for landscaping and environmental companies. The Chicago Center for Green Technology, 445 N. Sacramento Blvd, houses Greencorps Chicago, the city’s community gardening and job training program; and WRD Environmental, an urban landscape company. The Center also offers free environmental seminars and a green building resource center.
Garfield Park's main attraction, however, is the Garfield Park Conservatory. The Conservatory was completed in 1907 and is considered on the finest in the nation. Often called “landscape art under glass,” it covers 4.5 acres inside and out and displays thousands of different plants and flowers. The new indoor Elizabeth Morse Genius Children’s Garden provides a fun and engaging space for the Conservatory's many younger visitors.
Located throughout the city, Chicago Tribute Markers of Distinction celebrate notable Chicagoans by marking the places where they lived or worked. Two markers commemorate journalist Finley Peter Dunne (3109 W. Warren Blvd.) and football coach George Halas (4356 W. Washington Blvd.) in Garfield Park.
