Kathy

Kathy, 41, is the Public Relations Manager at the Irish American Heritage Center in Mayfair/Albany Park, and a freelance publicist for Prop Theater.

What neighborhood do you live in? What do you like best about living there?
I live in Logan Square with my boyfriend and turtle, Milocz.  I love the restaurants, coffee shops, parks and old buildings. It is close to everywhere I need to be and mostly I love being there.

What is the best way to explore your neighborhood? Is it particularly walkable or bike-friendly?
It is a walking and biking neighborhood.  Along the historic boulevards, it is great to look at the homes and gardens and sit on the boulevard too.

Are there any not-to-be missed festivals or popular public events where you live or work?
In Mayfair/Albany Park, the Irish American Heritage Festival is in its 25th year and is one of the city's largest and oldest, with the most diverse entertainment lineup and things for families to do.

What are some ways that residents show their neighborhood pride?
During Irish Fest and St Patrick’s Day, in Mayfair, they put out Irish Flags. They support our Center throughout the community.

Where do you like to go for fun?
Summer festivals, concerts and plays

What is your favorite season, and seasonal Chicago activity and/or event?
I love an 88 degree summer and I used to love spring and fall, when they existed

Do you have a favorite Chicago pasttime?
People watching.

What’s the best place to view the city skyline?
Any basketball court on the near west side of Chicago. I worked for ABC News and we traveled there to shoot the beauty shoots as they call them.

Where do you like to bring visiting friends or out-of-town guests?
For Polish food in Avondale, to the Montrose beach Dog Beach, to a sketchy bar called Bim Bom at Belmont and Laramie, to Chinatown.

What is your favorite hidden Chicago treasure, a spot or activity that few else know about?
A little hole in the wall called Christina’s, home of the $2 Guinness and some of the best bartenders in town.
