Josh

Jazz Musician; 36; Chicago resident for 20 years; lives in West Town

What neighborhood do you live in? Tell me about it.
I live in West Town. It’s really an “in between” neighborhood; to the north is the family-style Ukrainian Village and just south is the Kinzie industrial corridor. The streets are busy during the day and virtually dead at night. I love it.

What is your favorite thing about Chicago?
It’s easy to live here. I like the winters and I love the music scene, it’s very deep.

What is your favorite neighborhood and why?
I like Bucktown. It’s pretty close to where I first lived in the city. The outer edges of it still feel like the Chicago of 10 or 20 years ago.

Where do you like to go for fun?
Millennium Park, the Hungry Brain, the Hideout, Elastic Arts, the lake.

What are your favorite restaurants?

I like Le Bouchon, Amitibul, Irazu and Sultan’s Market.

Favorite summertime activity?
Walking by the lake.

Where can you find the best view of the Chicago skyline?
My apartment—third floor just west of the loop, it’s why I took the place.

Where do you like to bring visiting friends or out-of-town guests?

Hyde Park. It’s a beautiful part of town with the Smart Museum, Renaissance Society, University of Chicago, Washington Park…it’s got a lot to offer.
