Places to Sleep in Chicago

Tower of Power

These photos were taken atop the Trump Hotel by Chicago crane operator Ken Derry. For 36 months, Ken worked in a crane on top of the building as it was constructed - all 92 floors! Enjoy these unique views of Chicago!

Some people want to live in luxury when they come to Chicago. They desire thick, warm towels; room service at all hours; a gourmet restaurant on premises; and a concierge to meet their every need. Others prefer to economize; they’re satisfied with a clean room and a comfortable bed. “There’s so much to do in Chicago, we won’t be spending much time in the hotel anyway” they say.

You can be at either extreme – or somewhere in between – and Chicago is certain to meet your needs. That’s because the Chicago area has nearly 700 hotels with more than 100,000 rooms. They offer excellent service, comfort and value at every price point. Chicago hosts more than 45 million visitors a year, so our hospitality knows what it’s doing.

In downtown Chicago -- with its concentration of superb restaurants, shopping and cultural attractions – you can choose from more than 30,000 rooms in hotels ranging from the five-star luxury variety hotels, to small, trendy boutique properties to student-friendly hostels. Twenty additional hotels with 4,500 rooms will be under development over the next ten years.

Green Accommodations

Striving to be green from sun up to sun down, Chicago leads the nation with the greatest number of hotels with the Green Seal certification, an acknowledgement of their commitment to incorporate environmentally-friendly practices into their day-to-day operations.

Continuing to set the standard in “green hospitality venues”, Chicago presently has 14 Green Seal Certified hotels: five at the silver level—Hotel Allegro, Hotel Burnham, Hotel Monaco, InterContinental Chicago and The Talbott Hotel and nine at the bronze level—Essex Inn, Four Seasons, Hilton Chicago, The Ritz-Carlton-Chicago, Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Tower, The Silversmith Hotel & Suites, The Sofitel Chicago Water Tower, The Westin Michigan Avenue and The Fairmont Chicago.

And, in response to Mayor Daley’s Green Hotel Initiative challenge, many additional Chicago hotels are sprucing up for similar “certification” status. In the hospitality arena, Chicago’s conscientiously-minded hotel properties are setting the nation’s standard in green hospitality.
