Each night of this eleven-week festival offers an introductory one-hour dance lesson by professional instructors followed by two hours of music and dancing on a 4,600 square-foot, open-air dance floor. Forty-two different live bands will perform a wide range of music, including swing, waltz, salsa, cha-cha, and more, for locals and visitors. Thursdays - Sundays, through August 29.

Dusk Variations

Mixing pop and alternative genres with classical music, this series of four free concerts will take place in Millennium Park on Monday nights in August. The series kicks off on August 2 with The Portland Cello Project, whose classically trained cellists mix many musical genres. This performance will include six cellos under the musical stewardship of Douglas Jenkins.

The Chicago Air & Water Show is the largest free festival of its kind, with acrobatics in the skies over the city’s beautiful lakefront. North Avenue Beach is center stage for the event, August 14 and 15th.

Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz

Bethany Pickens leads an all star band in a retrospective honoring jazz innovator, composer and pianist Mary Lou Williams, who arranged for Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Earl Hines and others. Amina Claudine Myers’ special commission salutes the jazz pioneer’s 100th birthday.

Fountain Fridays Tour

Visitors have an opportunity to tour the Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain’s underground pump works and learn more about the monument. Julia Bachrach, Chicago Park District historian, leads these 30-minute tours. All proceeds benefit the restoration of Buckingham Fountain.
